No Surprises Act

What is the "No Surprises Act of 2022"?

As of January 1, 2022, the No Surprises Act went into effect limiting “surprise” medical bills, or bills insured patients receive for out-of-network care, either in emergency settings or from out-of-network providers at in-network facilities.

What is a "Good Faith Estimate"?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” with the approximate cost of your medical care. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your "Good Faith Estimate". If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your "Good Faith Estimate", you can dispute the bill.
